During the past winter (2020-21), Tabor Lake Association was able to quickly rally members to join with other Swiss Township residents in opposing a massive campground project proposed for a parcel of land just a mile north of our lake. This campground would have likely had a significant negative effect on our lake experience, safety and property values. It’s not that we don’t want to share. It was an ill-conceived idea, packing way too many people into too small an area — during a time when Danbury had just lost its ambulance service. This joint community effort was successful in defeating the proposal, which is a testament to the value of having an organization in place to address common interests when they arise.
Opposition to so-called “campgrounds” continues. As proposals piled up, the Burnett County Board of Supervisors approved a four-month campground moratorium, and the Land Use & Info committee created a work group to study the issue. Meetings began April 23rd, 2021 and are on-going.
